July 26, 2012 – Los Cerritos Beach Photo

Recently I have been helping a friend out by taking a few real estate photos for him. On July 26, I found myself high atop a bluff overlooking Los Cerritos beach and the Hacienda Cerritos Hotel. I think the view is amazing.

5th Annual Todos Santos Mango Festival

The 5th Annual Todos Santos Mango Festival is this weekend, July 27 – 31, 2012. This is a small festival held in a tiny park on “el otro lado” in the Todos Santos barrio of San Ignacio. There is a little midway setup, a bandstand and food booths. Events include a race, dances, coronation of the queen of the festival and a fishing contest. I don’t know the times of any of the events but something is happening on every weekend night at the park. Of course, schedules are subject to change, so it’s best to check before you go.

They do a terrible job of publicizing this festival so I really don’t know much more about it. I can’t even find any links on the web with current info. Truly amazing!

I can tell you that the weather has gotten hotter, yesterday being perhaps the hottest day of the summer yet. Last night took forever to cool down to 76F, hanging at 85F past midnight. So you can expect to sweat at the Mango Festival.

Understandable 2012 Méxican Election Coverage From The Economist

The Economist tries to explain, with text and graphs, what the results of the election really mean. It’s a great article – you should read it if Méxican politics and the election interest you.

Todos Santos Rumors And News, Part 2

Juanita Salgado’s Siempre Viva store on the corner of Juarez and Marquez de Leon is undergoing renovation and expansion. Sadly the store will be closing. I don’t know how long it has been a fixture in Todos Santos (it was there on my first visit in 1993) but I understand the space will be occupied by a new investment group in town, Black Creek Capital. I am also told that Juanita’s daughter will be opening a “cocina economica” in the new construction – this is a Mexican version of fast foods, almost deli like.

The construction on the four lane bypass around Todos Santos continues to grind on. I’ll get some photos soon. The plan is to cut through the hills east of town and connect up with the new bridge south of town. The bridge is coming along nicely. It’s going to be a completely different world around here, with 4 lane highways to both La Paz and Cabo San Lucas and a 4 lane bypass around Todos Santos.

1st Instagram Photo Taken In Todos Santos

Did you know that the first Instagram photo posted on the Web was taken at Chilako’s taco stand (aka Pelon’s)? Neither did I but that’s the word going around as Instagram celebrates their 2nd birthday. It’s Todos Santos so it makes perfect sense to have a dog and a flip flop be the subjects!
