Anyone Go To The Baja Reggae Festival 2012?

Well did anyone reading this blog attend? Leave a comment if you did and I’ll approve it quickly. I heard that ticket sales were so slow they had to reduce the price by 50%. Wonder if anyone at all bought those $700+ USD VIP tickets? I would guess not.

I also heard the music was good but that many people were camping on the beach and in the nearby hills and did not pay money to enter the concert area but managed to easily hear the show from where they camped.

Do you know more? Please share if you do.

Tim Lang And Friends At La Esquina, Saturday March 24 – Todos Santos

You really need to check Tim Lang out if you haven’t already. He is sorta retro (think 50′s Brando-ish with cig pack in t-shirt – no Tim doesn’t puff) but a 100% rockabilly/surfabilly crooner. The man can sing. You might think of Chris Isaak when you hear him. He (with friends) will be playing at La Esquina in Todos Santos on Saturday March 24. You owe yourself a listen.

Todos Santos Music Festival’s Scott McCaughey Extended Interview

Did you see some of the Todos Santos Music Festival shows? Do you remember Scott McCaughey?

Scott McCaughey With Baseball Project At 2012 Todos Santos Music Festival

You know, the guitar/bass/keyboard player with the Jerry Garcia-like hair and beard. He’s a really nice guy and a very talented and versatile musician. On Sunday March 11, he gave an extended interview to a Seattle WA radio station and it’s worth a listen.

2012 Baja Reggae Festival Announced

Talk about last minute events – unreal!! After how many years (4 or 5?) without a reggae festival, Los Cerritos Tequila is now sponsoring the 2012 version. I have to wonder out loud if Brad Baer ever trademarked the name and how he must feel to see his brainchild rise from the ashes without him. Or is he silently involved?

And did the success of the Todos Santos Music Festival inspire these guys to resuscitate this purely for profit music festival?

Fernando Viciconte And The Minus 5 – 2012 Todos Santos Music Festival Finale

From Fernando’s website (www.fernandoviciconte.com):

Fernando Viciconte combines incisively melodic songwriting, edgy, Crazy Horse-like rock and a passionate vocal twang that leaves no doubt he means every note that springs from his lips. Think of a south of the border-inflected Neil Young, or Tom Petty in his angst-ier days.

Fernando was another surprise for me personally. I was not familiar with his music at all and the loss was mine. Fernando hails from Argentina and is a rock-a-holic all the way. He currently resides in Portland and through his friendship with Peter Buck, has appeared on R.E.M. albums and other side projects with Peter.

This is the final photo from the music festival that I will be posting via blog entries. I will still be posting slideshows for each night when they are finally done.
